I suppose it had to happen. The sun went in and I ended up somewhere a bit grim. Boothbay Harbor was rated the third prettiest harbour in Maine in a magazine I read - third s---tiest seems a bit more appropriate. I can't see the charm at all, even if it was a sunny day. It's a hodge-podge of old and new, congested, largely 1970s blockhouse motels and attractions. I am glad I did not whale watch from here. The drive down was odd, in the sense that I came across the same things as before but in reverse. It is odd how the distances seem less once you know them. And, no offence to the US, which I love, but the bit of Canada I was just in was nicer. I am 125 miles or so from Boston, so tomorrow I have to meander my way to somewhere close, spend the night, and then be at the airport by 3 the next day. Always seems like a bit of a fag end, but here's hoping for nice weather and a nice location tomorrow.
The Bay with the tide out (a 16m rise)
No idea, but I followed it down the highway
Downtown Boothbay Harbor, in case you ever want to go there, here's a picture
I suppose there are some nice bits - a genuine working wooden shipyard
And some nice vistas
And finally. I do, eight years ago in Oregon
